Killing the Planet is a Team Effort
The typography in this piece is carefully placed to make the reader uncomfortable through the understanding of typography, the grid, and the content. From the way the titles are offset and cut off the page to the spacing in the paragraphs.

Overlaying the title forces the reader to look closer at the words on the page. The same design motif from the previous spread is carried through for continuity. On the second page of this spread, I altered the imagery once again to allow for the words to be visible. I thought it important for the reader to really look at the image and take in its significance. I placed the title at the bottom because it felt fitting that the placement represented how the environment and health has always been an afterthought, almost never considered.
The focus of this piece was to push discomfort throughout the piece. The topic is uncomfortable so the medium should be as well. This spread, I placed the words deliberately. The headline beginning near the middle is to symbolize that this has been an on going problem that does not seem to have a clear end. I forced the letter 't' of planet to go just slightly off the edge to further push a level of discomfort. I chose to forgo capital letters because there is simply no need. The imagery is loud on it's own and needed it's own voice.
I changed the paragraph spacing to expose how unnatural oil fracking is. The experience is to show how close it gets to chaos. If we are not careful, we could do even more irreparable damage to our planet. I slightly edited the image in this spread with Photoshop. Expanding the flames and smoke to emphasize the beginning of the statement. Without that, the contrast would not be stark enough and there would be no parallel between the words and the smoke. Once again, the words were placed intentionally close to the edge.
